Saylorville Dam impounds the Des Moines River 10 miles north of Des Moines, Iowa, forming Saylorville Lake, and is owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. FFP plans to construct a powerhouse below that dam, at its outflow channel. The dam was constructed in the 1960s for flood control purposes, and has not previously generated electricity. FFP projects that the Saylorville Project will have a nameplate capacity of 15 MW and will generate 45 GWh annually.
